Pennsylvania-based Homer City Generation, L.P. announced its celebration of the one-year anniversary of Kiewit Power Constructors Co. starting work on the Homer City Energy Campus.

Officials said Kiewit has led demolition and construction on the 3,200-acre site using a more than 2,000-person workforce to build the energy generation site in Indiana County, Pa. Kiewit began vertical construction on the site in April 2026, and completed demolition and excavation efforts in June. That work included recycling more than 112,000 tons of scrap materials, excavating approximately 3 million cubic yards of material and using robotics and other advanced demolition methods to ensure worker safety and operational efficiency. Kiewit has also installed two heat recovery steam generators as well as setting the first gas turbine on its foundation, officials said.

The company has done so without any OSHA-recordable incidents.

“In our first year on site, the team has built strong working relationships with Pennsylvania’s union workforce and made meaningful progress on safety, quality and productivity,” Brian Reinhart, VP of Kiewit Power Constructors Co. and project director, said. “We’re proud to have recorded zero OSHA-recordable incidents during this period and to have contributed nearly 1,000 volunteer hours and more than $275,000 to organizations across Indiana County. We look forward to carrying that momentum through construction and delivering a facility that will create local job opportunities.”

Kiewit has made significant efforts to hire locally, and create good-paying, family-sustaining jobs for Pennsylvanians while providing hands-on training for apprentices working alongside experienced journeymen.

“Kiewit and Homer City Generation have brought good-paying, family-sustaining jobs back to Western Pennsylvania — the kind of careers that let our members and apprentices build a future in their own community,” Shawn Steffee, business agent for Boilermakers Local 154, said. “The Homer City Energy Campus is showcasing the talent of Pennsylvania’s union workforce, and our local members are proud to play a leading role in building it. There’s no substitute for the opportunity a project like this creates, and we thank Kiewit for running it safely and efficiently while making it a model the rest of the country can follow.”
