Air, an enterprise readiness firm, said it will open a new office facility in Pittsburgh’s Strip District as part of its 10-year, $450 million tech expansion.
The company has had a longtime presence in Pennsylvania, officials said, and this new 35,000-square-foot office facility will accommodate the company’s growing tech workforce. The Pittsburgh office expansion is backed by an initial $10 million capital build-out investment that will create more jobs in areas related to software engineering, computer architecture and infrastructure, product development, and artificial intelligence. The company said it has expanded its Pittsburgh workforce by nearly 67 percent over the last year.
“Today marks an exciting new chapter for Air as we officially open the doors to our expanded tech hub in Pittsburgh,” Tara Murphy Dougherty, CEO of Air, said. “The unique combination of a highly skilled workforce, world-class academic institutions, and a vibrant technology ecosystem makes Pittsburgh an ideal engine for our AI-native platform development. We are deeply committed to investing in this community as we work to close the Readiness Gap and strive to meet immense customer demand.”
The company said it actively recruits engineers, data scientists, and software developers from regional academic powerhouses like Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh, and that local university graduates currently make up about 30 percent of its Pittsburgh workforce.
“As a Pittsburgh native, I am incredibly proud to see our company grow in my hometown,” Marco Corona, Chief Technology Officer and head of the Pittsburgh Office at Air, said. “This new facility establishes a direct pipeline between our region’s unmatched technical talent and critical national security work. We are building the future of defense technology right here in the Strip District, and we’re just getting started.”
