Tokyo-based CellFiber Co., a biotechnology company developing 3D cell culture and bioprocessing technology for regenerative medicine and cell therapy manufacturing, opened its wholly owned U.S. subsidiary in Philadelphia on Oct. 1.

Located at CIC Philadelphia, the site contains office and laboratory space. It will serve as CellFiber’s base for bringing its products and services to U.S. customers. The company plans to use the location to provide collaborative research and development for stem cell and immune cell therapy programs, and technology adoption support, process development, and scale-up. The site also will be used for strengthening partnerships with contract development and manufacturing organizations, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, and academic research institutions,

“We are excited to establish our first international site in Philadelphia, a city often called ‘Cellicon Valley’ for its concentration of cell and gene therapy innovation,” Kazuchika Furuishi, CellFiber president and CEO, said. “Philadelphia played a central role in developing the world’s first CAR-T cell therapy, and it remains home to leading institutions and companies at the forefront of the field.”

CellFiber develops products that enable closed, large-scale manufacturing of cell-based therapies. It was founded in December 2025. Cell and gene therapies have limited access worldwide because manufacturing these therapies is complex and expensive.
