Homer City Generation, L.P., in Indiana County, Pa., published a fact sheet detailing how its water usage will be consistent with the former coal plant at the same location.

The fact sheet showed how the company will source, treat, reuse and return the water and the Homer City Energy Campus. According to the report, the water campus will continue to use the Two Lick Reservoir via Two Lick Creek, the same water source for the former coal plant. Two Lick Reservoir was built as part of the former coal plant, officials said, and will continue to be owned, maintained and operated by Homer City Generation.

The company said total campus wide water use will remain in line with historical usage levels as the former coal plant, and will remain that way, including any future data centers.

Additionally, the company said it will treat and reuse water onsite, as drawn from the Two Lick Creek, and will build a modern water treatment facility to improve the efficiency of the water utilized. The company also said water usage is expected to be an improvement over the intake of the former coal plant.

“Due to increased efficiency, the new plant’s maximum intake rate using the existing intake is expected to be 5.9 gpm/MW as compared to the 14 gpm/MW of the coal plant, representing a 57% improvement in water usage,” the company said in a statement. “Throughout construction and once the power plant is operational, Homer City Generation remains committed to the highest environmental and safety standards, in full compliance with all state and federal regulatory requirements.”
