Rep. Seth Grove (R-York) commended this week a decision made by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) requiring 17 major electric, natural gas, and water and wastewater utilities to return $320 million per year to consumers.
“Today is a great day for all Pennsylvanians who will now see even more money in their wallets thanks to the federal tax cuts following the decision by the PUC,” Grove said. “When companies save millions of dollars through tax cuts, those savings should be passed onto consumers. It’s simply the right thing to do.”
In March, Grove and 14 Republican representatives issued a letter to the PUC, urging the commission to decrease energy costs for consumers because of the significant decrease in federal corporate tax rates and other tax changes under the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act signed into law last year. The legislation lowered the tax liability of many utility companies.
“My colleagues who signed the letter and I are thrilled we were able to once again stand up for Pennsylvanians and help them keep more of their hard-earned money,” Grove said. “Pennsylvania now joins the ranks of 39 others states to reduce energy rates following the tax reform measure.”
