Mike Weinbach became CEO of Wayne-based Radian Group, a multi-line specialty insurer, on Thursday, completing a planned leadership transition that the company announced in May. Weinbach also joined the board of directors.

Weinbach has a 30-year career that includes leading businesses through growth and transformation. He comes to the company from mortgage servicer Mr. Cooper Group where he served as president. He previously served as Wells Fargo consumer lending CEO, Chase Home Lending CEO and Citigroup M&A investment banker.

“Radian’s Board of Directors is pleased to welcome Mike to his new roles following a thoughtful and comprehensive transition process,” Howard Culang, non-executive chairperson of the board, said. “Mike is an accomplished leader whose experience, strategic judgment and deep financial services expertise make him well suited to lead Radian through this next phase of growth.”

Weinbach succeeds Rick Thornberry who is retiring on Dec. 31. He will serve as a strategic adviser through the end of the year.

Radian closed on its acquisition of Lloyd’s specialty insurer Inigo Limited on Feb. 2, and earlier this month completed the sale of its Real Estate Services business to real estate technology and services platform PLACE. Radian also plans to sell its Title business to PLACE.
