Pittsburgh-based Wabtec and Brazilian rail freight operator MRS Logística recently signed an approximately $254 million agreement, covering new Evolution Series locomotives, spare parts and maintenance services.
MRS Logística’s investment will be made in phases through 2032, Wabtec said on Sept. 23.
“This agreement reflects the strength of our longstanding partnership with MRS and our shared commitment to advancing sustainable mobility in Brazil,” Danilo Miyasato, Wabtec Latin America president and regional leader, said. “Through these technology solutions, we are supporting MRS in achieving its productivity, energy efficiency and long-term sustainability goals.”
The agreement is part of MRS Logística’s strategic plan to modernize its fleet and decarbonize its operations. Evolution Series locomotives, including the ES44ACi model that is included in the package, are designed to deliver high productivity with lower fuel consumption and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
“These agreements with Wabtec accelerate our fleet renewal plan, enabling us to increase asset availability, reduce the environmental impact of freight transportation and meet the growing demands of the Brazilian economy with maximum efficiency,” Guilherme Mello, MRS Logística CEO, said.
MRS Logística manages a 1,021 mile rail network that is used to move approximately 33 percent of all freight transported by rail in Brazil and approximately 20 percent of Brazilian exports.
