Academic leadership, faculty and staff from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) recently toured the Homer City Energy Campus.
Indiana County-based Homer City Generation, the owners of the campus, is transforming the former Homer City Generating Station into one of the largest natural gas-powered energy facilities in the United States. IUP representatives representing the Eberly College of Business, College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, College of Health Sciences and the College of Humanities, Media and Public Affairs viewed the construction progress, attended an educational session and explored opportunities for long-term collaboration that would support academic innovation, work force development and regional economic growth.
“Homer City Generation and IUP are both important organizations in Indiana County, and it makes sense for us to be in conversation about how we can work together in ways that serve our region,” Dr. Lara M. Luetkehans, Indiana University of Pennsylvania provost and vice president for academic affairs, said. “The visit was extremely informative, and we look forward to continuing to explore thoughtful opportunities for collaboration that could benefit our students, faculty and the broader community.”
The company and the university plan to continue exploring ways to connect the project with the university’s academic mission as the Homer City Energy Campus project advances.
