The Office of Naval Research recently awarded Philadelphia-based Attalon, an advanced defense technologies provider, with a $17.1 million contract modification under the SONGBOW program.
The SONGBOW program advances foundational technologies that are necessary to transition high-energy laser systems from research and development to operational use. The award supports the continued development of advanced pulsed fiber lasers and high-power directed energy subsystems.
Under the terms of the contract modification, Attalon will integrate a 50-kilowatt laser with a high-performance beam control assembly in a 400-kilowatt-class directed energy subsystem. Work will be conducted by Attalon’s Directed Energy & Advanced Lasers team in Beavercreek, Ohio.

Precision beam control technologies, scalable fiber laser architectures and advanced directed energy capabilities are becoming increasingly important to delivering operationally relevant systems.
