Pittsburgh-based manufacturer U. S. Steel released its 2024 sustainability report, highlighting the progress the company made last year to advance steel solutions, reduce emissions and meet growing customer demand for sustainable, high-performance products.
“Customers today expect more than a product,” Erika Chan, U. S. Steel head of sustainability, said. “That’s why we’re focused on delivering not just low-emissions steel, but more responsible solutions that support long-term value and shared progress.”
Highlights from the report include:
The company’s sustainability strategy is tightly aligned to customer priorities. This is especially true in the appliance, automotive, construction and packaging industries where demand for lower-carbon materials is growing.
The Big River Steel facility received the world’s first ResponsibleSteel product certification, and the company’s United by Service and Environmental Excellence Awards created stronger community partnerships.
The company continued to invest in carbon capture, utilization, and reduction technologies in collaboration with research institutions.
The company expanded its advanced, sustainable steel products lines including ZMAG, COASTALUME, and verde.
U.S. Steel says it made continued progress toward achieving its goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
