Italian coffee company building West Chester plant

Lavazza North America recently began construction on a facility in West Chester.

The company is part of Italian coffee company Lavazza Group, and this is the company’s first roasting and packing plant in the United States.

The plant is an expansion of the Lavazza Professional facility, adding 1,000 square feet to the existing facility. It will allow the company to be more reactive in the U.S. market.

“North America continues to be a strategic growth market for Lavazza Group, and opening this facility in the United States will sharpen our competitive edge,” Davide Riboni, Lavazza president and CEO BU Americas, said. “We will more efficiently service our current customers and offer incentives to attract new ones.”

Currently, roasted and ground coffee for the U.S. market is sourced from Italy. A North American plant allows the company to reduce its carbon footprint.

The facility is scheduled to open in October.

Lavazza Professional achieved ISO 45001 certification, is zero-landfill, and is a LEED Gold site.

Lavazza was founded in 1895. It has nine production plants in six countries and operates in more than 140 countries through its subsidiaries and distributors.

It employs more than 4,000 people, and sales in 2020 totaled more than over $2.4 billion.
