Comcast to bring internet coverage to 13 counties

The Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority recently awarded Philadelphia-based Comcast a total of more than $61 million in Broadband Infrastructure Program grants.

The company will use funding to extend Internet service to 13 counties previously unserved or underserved with high-speed Internet. The counties are Adams, Beaver, Berks, Blair, Cambria, Chester, Cumberland, Indiana, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Washington, Wyoming and York.

Washington County has committed matching funding.

“We are thrilled to have been selected by the Commonwealth to reach more Pennsylvanians in unserved areas with our superior network while also enabling them to benefit from the power of the Internet and engage in the digital economy,” Ricky Frazier Jr., senior vice president of Comcast’s Keystone Region, said. “The enthusiasm for our company within these communities has been humbling. There is a strong desire for Xfinity and Comcast Business services and we look forward to meeting that need.”

Comcast expects the projects will be completed by late 2026. Once finished, residents and businesses will have access to Comcast Business Internet and mobile, Xfinity Internet, Xfinity TV & Streaming, and Xfinity Mobile, and other Comcast services.

In Pennsylvania, Comcast offers more than 156,000 Xfinity WiFi hotspots, and has invested nearly $2.4 billion in technology and infrastructure over the last several years.
