State to offer free workshops to agricultural businesses

The Pennsylvania Agricultural Business Development Center will offer six workshops this week during the virtual 2021 Pennsylvania Farm Show to agricultural businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs.

The workshops on business planning and marketing are offered in partnership with the Pennsylvania Small Business Development Centers.

“This series is an effort to help the industry meet the challenges of the 21st century by growing opportunities and resources, removing barriers to entry, and cultivating future generations to maintain the sustainability of Pennsylvania’s leading industry,” Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding said. “Because when farmers and agriculture succeed, so does our commonwealth.”

The free workshops were designed to enhance Pennsylvania farms’ long-term viability by providing education and a team of experts. Registration is required.

Topics include key fundamentals to consider in a new agribusiness; what to consider for when writing a business plan; fresh ideas that can jumpstart a business: how online sales are essential for success; evaluating a business’ potential for tourism including reviewing permitting, promotions, and potential income streams; and understanding the market and competition and diversifying to sustain a business.

The Agricultural Business Development Center was established last year. It provides farmers with counsel and advice, and information on insurance, loan opportunities, and grants.
