A groundbreaking ceremony was held last week for a new industrial park to open at the Hanover 9 mine reclamation site co-located in the City of Nanticoke and Hanover Township.

The project has the potential to create approximately 1,548 new jobs with an average salary of $41,000. The total capital investment from the site’s developer and prospective tenants is expected to be about $209.4 million with an annual payroll of approximately $63.4 million.

Northpoint development, a privately held development firm based in Kansas City, is developing the site. The plan for the site includes three separate buildings with a total square footage of over 2.3 million.

“The South Valley Corridor is bursting with economic development at an unprecedented pace thanks to the more than $393 million private investment that is being made by NorthPoint Development and its tenants,” State Sen. John Yudichak (D-Luzerne), who participated in the groundbreaking ceremony, said.

Northpoint Development purchased the site from the Earth Conservancy.

In 2016, NorthPoint Development also purchased 172 acres of reclaimed land along the South Valley Parkway, now known as Hanover Ridge, in Luzerne County. That project is expected to be finished in 2019.
