Sheetz to open in Scranton industrial park

Sheetz will be opening a store in the Mount Pleasant Corporate Center in Scranton, according to the Scranton Plan, the economic development marketing affiliate of The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce.

“This development will not only add to the appeal of the Mount Pleasant Corporate Center but will contribute to the ongoing revitalization of Downtown Scranton,” Bob Durkin, chamber president, said. “We expect that these continued efforts will work in getting additional businesses, developers, and investors to consider Scranton in their site selection processes.”

The Mount Pleasant Corporate Center is in the heart of Scranton’s central business district and features commercial and office sites. It houses two medical office buildings and four companies.

Development began in 2008 after the chamber purchased the former Mount Pleasant Breaker site.

The center is located along 7th Avenue and West Linden Street, near the North Scranton Expressway, one of the city’s main thoroughfares.

Sheetz said earlier this year that it would be building its first store within Scranton city limits. Residents welcome the business, saying it can be inconvenient at times to find a convenience store/gas station combo in the city.

While the Scranton Planning Commission must approve plans, construction could begin before the end of the year.
