Next Generation Bankers Academy concludes summer program

Secretary of Banking and Securities Robin L. Wiessmann recently announced the completion of a pilot public-private initiative through which more than 20 students from Pennsylvania colleges and universities learned about careers in banking or financial regulation this summer.

“Governor Wolf and I look forward to graduates of the Next Generation Bankers Academy achieving great success for themselves, their communities, and Pennsylvania in future years,” Wiessmann said. “These young people are the future business leaders of Pennsylvania, and much opportunity waits for them in our commonwealth after completing their college careers.”

The students learned about technology and cybersecurity, consumer and commercial lending, investment services, marketing and strategic planning, government oversight and policy and other topics at Orrstown Bank, Centric Bank, and Mid Penn Bank.

The Next Generation Bankers Academy was a collaboration between the Pennsylvania Bankers Association, Pennsylvania Association of Community Bankers and the Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities.

“In addition to being a valuable educational opportunity for students, the Next Generation Bankers Academy addresses the need for recruiting talented young professionals into the banking industry, which is top of mind for banks and bank regulators,” Duncan Campbell, president and CEO of the PA Bankers Association, said. “As senior executives and career employees approach retirement, banks and regulators are rising to meet the challenge of ensuring that the next generation of bankers are prepared with the institutional knowledge and professional excellence required to not just succeed, but to lead the industry forward.”
