Gov. Tom Wolf recently announced the approval of a $60 million investment for 12 water infrastructure projects across 12 counties through the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST).
The investment will be used for drinking water, wastewater, and non-point source water quality improvement projects.
“The approval of this funding through PENNVEST will continue Pennsylvania’s commitment to clean water through a variety of water quality improvement projects across the commonwealth,” Wolf said. “These projects benefit the environment, economic development, and public health, as well as advance our shared goal of a clean and safe environment for our families to enjoy, both now and for years to come.”
Project funding is available through voter-approved state funds, Growing Greener, Marcellus Legacy funds, and PENNVEST federal grants from the Environmental Protection Agency. Funding will also be provided through recycled loan repayments from previous PENNVEST funding awards.
One of the largest projects to be addressed is the modernization of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Water Authority in Greene County. The project will receive a $10,582,887 loan as well as a $5,139,113 grant to install a new storage tank, replace 113,000 feet of waterline, and replace the current distribution system.
