Eos Energy Enterprises wins contract for Golden Dome for America

Pittsburgh-based Eos Energy Enterprises, Inc., announced it had won a contract with the U.S. Department of War to integrate mission-ready long-duration energy storage support for the Golden Dome for America project.

Eos, a manufacturer of zinc-based long-duration energy storage (LDES), will deploy its Z3 zinc-based long-duration energy storage technology as a prototype for the project. The Z3 system is designed to secure power infrastructure and strengthen mission readiness through long-duration power. The initial deployment will demonstrate the value of LDES in terms of national security.

“Eos in Pittsburgh just agreed to a multi-million-dollar partnership with the Department of War to build energy storage technology in support of our Golden Dome missile defense. Yeah, we’re building a golden dome over our country and its going to be a very effective one,” President Donald J. Trump said during U.S. Sen. Dave McCormick’s (R-PA) Defense and National Security Summit in Carlisle, Pennsylvania on July 15, 2026.

Manufactured and assembled in Pittsburgh, Eos’ proprietary technology combines non-flammable aqueous zinc chemistry with domestic content through a predominantly U.S.-based supply chain. Once the technology has shown progress in the pilot stage, the program is structure to scale up as national defense needs evolve.

“This award validates the strategy we’ve built around American technology innovation, manufacturing and supply chains,” Joe Mastrangelo, Eos CEO, said. “Today, we’re proving that America can still manufacture advanced technology at scale and deliver for our nation’s most critical missions.”

The company said it is rapidly expanding domestic manufacturing capacity at its Thorn Hill facility in the Pittsburgh region. Thorn Hill is the cornerstone of the company’s next phase of growth, officials said, and will be adding automated manufacturing capacity for the Z3 platform and creating a scalable, repeatable foundation as the company works toward 8 gigawatt hours of annual production capacity in Allegheny County. The company has also committed to creating 1,000 high-quality jobs across the region.
