Pittsburgh-based Calgon Carbon Corp., a manufacturer and distributor of innovative coal-, wood- and coconut-based activated carbon products, recently launched a reactivated carbon solution for municipal drinking water systems.
The system, Filtrasorb Rx, demonstrated a measured destruction removal efficiency greater than 99.9 percent during a third-party validated, peer-reviewed study. It can be tailored to each municipality’s specific water profile, treatment goals and operating conditions. Customers’ reactivated carbon is evaluated and returned through a process designed based on a municipality’s specific spent carbon quality, water profile and treatment objectives.
When compared to virgin activated carbon combined with incineration or landfilling, Filtrasorb Rx has a lower cost of ownership. Also when compared with virgin carbon production, reactivation lowers the carbon dioxide footprint by 80 percent.
