West Pharmaceutical Services appoints Michel Lagarde as next president, CEO

Exton-based West Pharmaceutical Services, an injectable drug solutions company, recently appointed Michel Lagarde to serve as president and CEO, effective Aug. 31, and as a board of directors member.

“Michel is an accomplished leader whose experience demonstrates the precise blend of visionary insight, customer-centric mindset, and exceptional leadership skills the board sought throughout the search process,” Robert Friel, lead independent director, said. “Throughout his career, Michel has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to customers, an ability to build high-performing teams and an impressive track record of long-term value creation, which makes him exceptionally well suited to lead West at this time.”

Lagarde has extensive pharmaceutical and biotech experience. He comes to the company from Thermo Fisher Scientific where he served as executive vice president and chief operating officer. He previously served as Patheon N.V. president and chief operating officer and JLL Partners managing director. He also spent 12 years at Philips in a range of finance roles.

Lagarde succeeds Eric Green who is retiring. As part of the CEO transition, Friel will become board of directors chairman on Aug. 31.

West Pharmaceutical Services employs more than 10,000 people at 50 sites, including 26 manufacturing facilities worldwide. The company delivers more than 41 billion components and devices annually.
