Pittsburgh-based PPG, a paint and coatings product manufacturer, recently launched a white interior coating designed for aluminum draw-redraw cans and easy-open ends containing wet pet food. It is part of PPG’s Nutrishield line of internal coatings designed for food cans.

The product, PPG Nutrishield MAX PPG7590 solution, is the first polyvinyl chloride non-intent, one-component coil coating in the United States. This eliminates the need for mixing, changeovers or multiple coating systems. The product also maintains a crisp, white interior for can bodies and can ends, cures reliably across different plant lines, offers stain resistance, and supports aluminum coil rollcoat application.

“We’re providing a major step forward in quality, simplicity and sustainability for pet food packaging,” Florence Béliard, PPG global strategic market manager, food, Packaging Coatings, said. “This latest coating innovation offers our customers a range of benefits including reduced costs through manufacturing efficiency, optimal performance with enhanced visual appearance and compliance in a fast-moving regulatory landscape.”

Major pet food brands, coil coaters and can manufacturers have approved the product.

From May 5 to 8, PPG will feature its complete BPA-NI coatings portfolio, including Nutrishield MAX, at METPACK 2026, an international trade fair for the metal packaging industry, in Essen, Germany.
