Pennsylvania House Republicans recently launched an initiative aimed at providing tax relief and lowering costs.
The Freedom Through Affordability initiative includes targeted proposals designed to provide tax cuts and sales tax holidays temporarily for six months. Proposals include reducing the state Personal Income Tax rate from 3.07 percent to 2.99 percent, suspending the state’s gas tax, suspending the Gross Receipts Tax on electricity and telecommunications, and a sales tax holiday on car seats and other newborn/baby products.
“Our goal is simple: Make Pennsylvania a place where families can afford to live, work and build their future,” state Rep. David Rowe (R-Snyder/Union/Mifflin/Juniata), House Republican Policy Committee chairman, said. “When people can keep more of what they earn and the cost of everyday life is within reach, they have the freedom to make their own choices about their future. That’s what this effort is about – achieving freedom through affordability for people across the commonwealth.”
In addition to the initiative, House Republicans also are holding a statewide Affordability Starts Here tour designed to allow lawmakers to hear from families, workers and employers on the cost of living. The first tour stop was on Monday in Hanover. The topic was making child care affordable.
