Bethlehem-based B. Braun Medical, an infusion therapy and pain management company, recently purchased renewable electricity for its U.S. operations.

“B. Braun’s purchase of matching renewable energy certificates and investments in clean energy technologies demonstrate our commitment to environmental responsibility and global health, while highlighting sustainability as one of our core values,” Christian Hutter, B. Braun associate director of sustainability, said. “These actions represent not a cost, but an investment in our collective future.”

The purchase is part of the company’s commitment to reducing scope 1 and 2 carbon dioxide equivalent emissions by 50 percent by 2030, and will result in a more than a 30 percent reduction of its North American emissions.

The company’s United States-based manufacturing facilities, affiliated distribution centers and Pennsylvania locations will be matched with 100 percent renewably sourced electricity. The company also is installing a fuel cell microgrid at its IV fluid and generic pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Irvine, Calif.

The B. Braun Group of Companies employs more than 64,000 people in 64 countries. The group also includes Aesculap, CAPS and B. Braun Interventional Systems.

B. Braun Medical develops, manufactures and markets medical products and services to the health care industry, including nutrition, pharmacy admixture and dialysis products.
