Saxonburg-based Coherent Corp., a semiconductor manufacturer, and California-based NVIDIA, a full-stack computing company, have entered into a multiyear, nonexclusive agreement to cultivate advanced optics technologies. The goal is to enable next-generation artificial intelligence infrastructure.
The agreement includes manufacturing capacity, research and development, a multibillion-dollar purchase commitment, and future access and capacity rights for advanced laser and optical networking products. NVIDIA also will invest $2 billion in Coherent to support research and development, and future capacity and operations while Coherent builds out its U.S.-based manufacturing capabilities.
“This strategic relationship underscores Coherent’s role as a key enabler of next-generation AI data center infrastructure,” Jim Anderson, Coherent CEO, said. “We are proud to expand our 20-year relationship with NVIDIA by increasing their access to include multiple product families to help them build the AI data centers of the future.”
The partnership will take advantage of Coherent’s expertise in optical innovation and advanced manufacturing, and NVIDIA’s leadership in AI. It will enable Coherent to scale its research and development and manufacturing capacity to support the global buildout of next-generation AI data centers.
