Giant Eagle Inc., the regional food, fuel, and pharmacy retailer headquartered in Cranberry Township, Pa., launched its Because It Matters business strategy to guide the company’s plan for future growth.
The new strategy marks the latest in a series of organizational milestones over the past 12 months, highlighted by the sale of its GetGo business and the growth of the retailer’s pharmacy services, Giant Eagle said on Sept. 25.
“2025 has been an incredibly important year in Giant Eagle’s history and the milestones we have achieved have presented us with an opportunity to reinvigorate how we show up for our guests,” Giant Eagle President and CEO Bill Artman said. “We are committed to being the hometown grocer across every community we serve, and we believe our Because It Matters strategy and the associated investments we are making will be a catalyst to achieving that goal.”
The Because It Matters strategy is an investment of more than $100 million, said Giant Eagle, noting that the multi-year strategic plan is focused on three distinct areas: Better everyday value; better quality and service; and a better shopping experience.
“Our commitments to quality, service, and being a leading employer across the communities we serve cannot come at the expense of prices that make choosing to shop with us a challenge,” said Justin Weinstein, executive vice president and chief merchandising and marketing officer at Giant Eagle.
“We plan to introduce several savings-focused initiatives throughout the remainder of 2025 to keep costs low for customers by offering additional ways to save,” he added. “This comes alongside us working closely with our suppliers every day to explore all opportunities to maintain and reduce costs during this important time for families’ grocery budgets.”
For instance, the promotional activity kicks off with “$1 Deals,” a one-week sale starting Sept. 25 that lowers 1,000 items to $1, according to the company.
Quality and service will continue to be prioritized with the hiring and training of more food professionals, as well as investments in programming to continue to provide differentiated quality and service offerings and employee training.
Recent and upcoming investments into enhanced shopping experiences include an investment of millions of dollars to remodel a dozen supermarkets across Pennsylvania and Ohio, and the renovation and expansion of more than 60 in-store Giant Eagle Pharmacy departments, among others, the company said.
