BAE Systems awarded $318M military contract to provide support services for Self-Propelled Howitzer fleets

The U.S. Army recently awarded BAE Systems a five-year contract valued at up to $318 million to perform technical and sustainment support services for the M109A6 and A7 Self-Propelled Howitzers fleet and the companion M992A3 carrier, ammunition, tracked vehicles.

Under the contract, BAE Systems will provide ongoing engineering and logistics services for the maintenance and testing on the vehicles as well as to provide new capabilities.

BAE Systems will perform the work at its facilities in York, Pa.; Minneapolis, Minn.; Sterling Heights, Mich.; Endicott, N.Y.; Elgin, Okla.; and Aiken, S.C., and at military bases worldwide.

“The M109 Self-Propelled Howitzer continues to prove itself as the ‘King of Battle’ as it provides the firepower and maneuverability to dominate the battlefield,” Dan Furber, director of ground vehicle production for BAE Systems’ Combat Mission Systems business, said. “Sustainment services for the M109 allow the U.S. Army to maintain a high level of operational readiness to take this powerful capability to the fight.”

In November 2023, the U.S. Army awarded BAE Systems a M109A7 production contract.

The M109A7 is a howitzer in the M109 family of vehicles, the primary indirect fire support system for the Armored Brigade Combat Teams. It replaces chassis components with modem components common to the Bradley vehicle.
