PECO had lowest rate of outages in 2023

Philadelphia-based PECO, Pennsylvania’s largest electric and natural gas delivery company, experienced the lowest power outage rate in company history in 2023.

The majority of customers, 86 percent, experienced one outage or none. For the outages that did occur, power was restored on average in 90 minutes.

“This is a major accomplishment for our company and for our customers,” Nicole LeVine, PECO senior vice president and COO, said. “Our dedicated employees work so hard every day to prevent those outages that can be prevented and to provide our customers with the level of service they have come to expect from PECO. We look forward to building on this milestone and our five-year system investment plan will help drive this effort.”

The low outage rate is the result of PECO’s efforts to modernize the electric grid and make it stronger, more weather-resistant, less vulnerable to storm damage and able to meet the growing energy demands of customers and support future growth and development. The company completed more than 200 major electric reliability projects last year as part of its Reliability & Resiliency Plan.

Over the next five years, PECO will invest approximately $9.3 billion in new equipment, completing targeted system enhancements and corrective maintenance, performing necessary tree trimming and other vegetation management, and inspecting equipment.
