PPG joint venture to deliver paint, clear film solutions for automotive, industrial customers

Pittsburgh-based PPG and Ohio-based Entrotech, a technology-driven film solutions provider, recently formed a joint venture to deliver paint and clear film solutions for automotive and industrial customers through PPG Advanced Surface Technologies.

Financial and other terms were not disclosed. PPG has a majority stake in the joint venture that will consist of PPG’s Wörwag film assets and Entrotech’s automotive films business.

“This joint venture will position our portfolio of paint films products for accelerated commercialization, offering customers innovative products with high performance and significant sustainability benefits,” PPG President and CEO Tim Knavish said. “This venture will be positioned for rapid global expansion aligned to PPG’s portfolio.”

Paint films are multilayer applications in which at least one layer is made from paint. It is used for automotive applications with the potential for use in a range of industries. The films offer new aesthetic options and environmental benefits such as lower energy consumption.

PPG purchased German-based Wörwag, a coatings supplier that provides film products for a variety of automotive parts and panels, in 2021.

Entrotech’s automotive films portfolio of includes automotive clear protective films and the Aero Sustainable Material Technology line. In 2007, the company developed its patented and patent-pending technologies to meet the requirements of motorsports.
