Prysmian Group expanding Williamsport facility

Prysmian Group North America, an energy and telecommunications cable systems provider, plans to expand its Williamsport manufacturing facility.

A 51,000-square-foot addition will be built to create more manufacturing space. This will double Prysmian’s capacity, allowing it to fulfill its supply agreement with Invenergy Transmission and support Prysmian’s Advanced E3X conductor technology.

“Through this agreement, we will supply up to 12,500 miles of overhead conductor cable from the Williamsport facility through 2029 to support Invenergy’s portfolio, helping to deliver electricity Americans can count on,” Andrea Pirondini, Prysmian Group North America CEO, said.

The project will create at least 27 jobs and retain 407 positions.

The Department of Community and Economic Development submitted a funding proposal for a $3 million Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority loan and a $135,000 Pennsylvania First grant. The agency also encouraged Prysmian to apply for tax credits through the Manufacturing Tax Credit Program.

The City of Williamsport contributed $125,000 to the project.

Prysmian operates 28 manufacturing plants across North America. The company manufactures underground and submarine cables and systems for power transmission and distribution, medium and low-voltage cables for the construction and infrastructure sectors, optical fibers, copper cables, and connectivity systems for voice and video and data transmission for the telecommunications sector.
