Michigan company purchases Coatesville’s John Rock

Michigan-based Kamps, a full-service national pallet company, recently purchased Coatesville-based John Rock, a pallet manufacturer, for an undisclosed amount.

“We are pleased to join the Kamps organization and expand our operations in the pallet, sawmill, and logistics business,” Bill MacCauley, John Rock president, said. “The Kamps organization offers significant opportunities for our customers, suppliers, and employees. I have known the Kamps family for over 25 years, and consider it an honor to add the Rock team to the nation’s most forward-thinking pallet organization.”

MacCauley and the company’s 300 employees, located in five facilities, will become Kamps employees.

John Rock manufactures more than 500,000 pallets monthly. It operates a more than 300,000-square-foot facility in Coatesville and has more than 65 tractors and more than 200 trailers in its fleet. The company has customers in nine states in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.

Founded in 1973 in Honey Brook by founder John Rock, MacCauley purchased the company in 1997.

Kamps supplies wooden pallets and provides pallet recycling services. It has more than 400 locations in its network and 60 asset-based locations.

This is Kamps’ 15th strategic acquisition since 2019, when Freeman Spogli & Co., a private equity firm investing in and partnering with consumer and distribution companies, acquired majority ownership.
