An unnamed major engine original equipment manufacturer (OEM) recently signed a production contract with Berwyn-based Triumph Group’s TRIUMPH Systems, Electronics, and Controls business for 400 Auto Feather Units (AFU) over the next two years that will be used on the ATR72 family of aircraft.
The order also includes an expected future order of 300 AFUs annually with a retrofit upgrade of approximately 2,000 fielded aircraft.
AFUs work by providing torque signal conditioning and automatic propeller feathering during takeoff.
“TRIUMPH has provided over 25,000 Electronic Control Units to engine OEMs over the last decade,” Justin Wolfanger, TRIUMPH Systems, Electronics, and Controls president, said. “Our core electronics technology and intellectual property have enabled us to offer our customer base an upgraded, new state-of-the-art AFU.”
TRIUMPH designs, engineers, manufactures, repairs, and overhauls a portfolio of aerospace and defense systems and components for the global aviation industry. Customers include commercial aircraft operators, the military, and OEMs.
The TRIUMPH Systems, Electronics, and Controls business specializes in the design, development, certification, manufacture, and repair of electronic engine control systems, fuel controls, fuel pumps, and fuel metering units for helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft.
It operates in two locations in Connecticut and one in Ohio.
