Pennsylvanian American Power investing in Luzerne County project

Pennsylvania American Water recently announced it will invest $3.5 million to install nearly 6,000 feet of ductile-iron water main along the San Souci Parkway (SR 2002) in Hanover Township, Luzerne County, to replace a cast iron pipe from 1900.

The project will improve reliability, reduce service disruptions, and increase water flow for firefighting.

Work includes the installation of new 24- and 12-inch pipe from the intersection of Oxford Street to Main Road.

Construction will begin this week and is expected to finish next year. Work is being completed before a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation road project scheduled for 2025.

During construction, traffic restrictions will be in place, and customers might experience lower than normal water pressure, discolored water, and/or temporary service interruptions.

Last year, Pennsylvania American Water invested approximately $373 million statewide to improve water and wastewater treatment and pipeline systems.

Pennsylvania American Water is a subsidiary of American Water and is the state’s largest investor-owned water utility. It provides water and wastewater services to approximately 2.4 million people.

Founded in 1886, American Water is the country’s largest publicly traded water and wastewater utility company. It employs more than 6,400 people and provides drinking water and wastewater services to more than 14 million people in 24 states.
