The Philadelphia Eagles and Braskem, the largest polyolefins producer in the Western Hemisphere, recently cleaned up South Philadelphia’s FDR Park.
The park covers 348 acres and is the city’s largest. It is located adjacent to Lincoln Financial Field, where the Eagles play.
“At Fairmount Park Conservancy, we are grateful when members of the community pitch in to show their love for Philadelphia’s parks,” Maura McCarthy, executive director, said. “The Philadelphia Eagles and Braskem’s efforts in the gem of FDR Park are very much appreciated as both organizations are focused on sustainability. We hope other companies will follow their lead!”
Braskem plans to donate a new bench at Lincoln Financial Field, made from recycled food service trays, plastic bottle caps, stadium seats, and other items.
The Eagles and Braskem entered into a nine-year sustainability-focused partnership in 2018. Since then, 60,000 pounds of plastic items have been collected and recycled from the team’s facilities.
The partners also have developed an education platform for 30 Philadelphia-area schools to teach students about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math career opportunities and a closed-loop recycling program for bottle caps and other plastic products.
Braskem America has production plants in Pennsylvania and an Innovation and Technology Center in Pittsburgh.
