PPG recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its European Central Powder Coatings Research and Development (R&D) Center in Milan, Italy.

The R&D center will demonstrate advanced powder technologies, innovate powder coatings product development, and provide customer and technical support. The building includes laboratories for automotive original equipment manufacturers and refinish coatings businesses.

The facility also includes a customer application center that includes a design and color showroom.

It is part of the company’s commitment to novel powder coatings technologies.

“The new powder coatings R&D center boasts a critical mass of capabilities that will significantly strengthen our product development and application efforts,” Olivier Magnin, PPG technical director of industrial coatings for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, said. “We also can leverage competencies at the site, including our corporate color group, our global center of excellence for waterborne coatings, and our state-of-the-art analytical and weathering lab, as One PPG.”

PPG did not disclose its financial investment.

In 2021, PPG operated in more than 75 countries.

The company purchased Alpha Coating Technologies in 2020. The company manufactures powder coatings for light industrial applications and heat-sensitive substrates.

Last year, PPG purchased Wörwag, a manufacturer of liquid, powder, and film coatings for industrial and automotive applications.
