Sunbury-based Fresh Roasted Coffee, a privately owned coffee roasting company, recently received more than $1.7 million to support its Northumberland County expansion.

The Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority issued the company a $1.5 million low interest loan, the Department of Community and Economic Development issued a funding proposal for a $184,000 Pennsylvania First grant and $88,000 workforce development grant.

Fresh Roasted Coffee plans to invest $5.39 million to renovate and upgrade a vacant 84,000-square-foot building it recently purchased. The project is expected to create 46 full-time positions and retain 35 jobs over the next three years.

Once the project is completed, most of the company will move to the new building. It will feature new packaging equipment and high-capacity roasters to meet the company’s growing production capacity.

“My administration is pleased to support Fresh Roasted Coffee as the company continues to grow in Pennsylvania,” Gov. Tom Wolf said after touring the facility on Friday. “This expansion project will create nearly 50 jobs in the Sunbury area and redevelop a large and important building for this community. Projects like this benefit families, strengthen our economy and build a brighter future for Pennsylvania.”

Wolf toured the company’s current facility with owner Andy Oakes and spoke with employees.
