Plans for Pennsylvania’s first green building manufacturing plant, NEXUS-1, are moving forward as FOMO Corp. subsidiary the Energy Intelligence Center (EIC) works to complete an energy efficiency project for Canadian green construction technology company Nexii Building Solutions Inc.
EIC said it is working with subcontractors to design an LED lighting system for the 180,000-square foot Nexii manufacturing facility in Hazelton, Pa., which is optimized for illumination, occupant productivity, and energy efficiency.
With an investment of more than $20 million, NEXUS-1 will create more than 180 new, skilled green manufacturing jobs in the city of Hazleton, according to Nexii. Once fully operational, the plant will be able to produce more than 8 million square feet of sustainable and resilient building panels every year, serving projects in New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.
“This project has been multiple months in the making, and EIC’s contractor is completing the installation of the energy saving LED fixtures for the offices, showroom, and production bays,” said John Wolfington, managing partner at NEXUS-1. “We expect all of the LED fixtures to be installed around the week of October 18.”
Energy analysis of the system found an estimated energy savings of the new LED fixtures would save NEXII about $51,574 per year, while reducing carbon dioxide emissions per year by about 939,059 pounds. If NEXUS-1 operates a three-shift manufacturing process over 10 years, the estimated savings would be more than $900,000, the equivalent of turning off 11,343 light bulbs, with a reduction of 16,433,536 pounds of CO2 emissions – or the equivalent of offsetting 162 cars per year.
