Pennsylvania among top job markets in U.S.

A new study by Lensa, a career platform, has found that Pennsylvania’s job market is among the top three for the number of unique job listings in the United States.

Using Lensa’s internal data, the study found that Pennsylvania has more than 2.3 million unique job listings, topped only by Texas with 3.1 million and California with 4.3 million. The study found that Pennsylvania has plenty of work, with the majority of listings in the transportation and moving materials sector.

“Pennsylvania comes third with a total of 2,325,275 job listings in the first two quarters of the year,” the study said. “As the fifth most populated US state, Pennsylvania was bound to rank highly for job listings. The state is home to several major towns and cities including Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, and Allentown, among others, which act as economic focal points and tend to be where most jobs are located.

Pennsylvania employers are looking for people to take up jobs like delivery drivers and public transportation work, with 672,376 job openings in the transport and moving materials roles in the first six months of 2021.

Pennsylvania had the eighth highest number of job searches of all 50 states and the District of Columbia. This could indicate that it has a high number of job seekers, the study said, or that it has a greater level of difficulty when it comes to finding a job. Philadelphia was the 17th most popular city in the country for job seekers, the study found. Pittsburgh was ranked the 27th most popular city for job seekers.
