Rite Aid publishes sustainability report, including company’s new ESG strategy

Rite Aid, headquartered in Camp Hill, Pa., recently published a corporate sustainability report highlighting its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy.

The report includes the company’s four key pillars: thriving business, thriving workplace, thriving community, and thriving planet.

“As a healthcare organization that aspires to support the whole health of its communities, we understand the critical need to address notable issues like climate change, product safety, energy management, and health inequities,” Trent Kruse, Rite Aid senior vice president, investor relations and treasury, said. “Our third annual sustainability report illustrates the progress we’ve made across critical ESG initiatives and lays out a new framework for our sustainability efforts focused around four key pillars.”

Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families ranked Rite Aid ranked seventh out of 50 retailers for efforts to reduce or eliminate toxic chemicals from products sold. Only 1 percent of its private-brand formulated products still contain eight chemicals of high concern, and Rite Aid is working with suppliers to reformulate those formulas.

The company increased training for business skills such as safety, compliance, and leadership.

The company offered more than 1,200 COVID-19 tests and administered over 5 million COVID-19 vaccines.

The company diverted more than 50,000 tons of recyclable materials from landfills.
