PPG purchases coatings manufacturer

PPG recently completed the purchase of German-based Wörwag, a global manufacturer of coatings for industrial and automotive applications

Wörwag specializes in developing sustainable liquid, powder, and film coatings. It employs approximately 1,100 people globally with locations in Germany, the United States, Spain, Switzerland, Poland, Mexico, South Africa, and China. Founded in 1918, it is headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany.

“The acquisition of Wörwag is another step forward in PPG’s strategic growth plan that will provide further value to our customers and shareholders,” Rebecca Liebert, PPG executive vice president, said. “Both companies have a strong history of providing high-quality and sustainable solutions. Wörwag’s customer and product footprint, sustainability focus, and customer-centric approach are highly complementary to PPG’s business. We look forward to serving both PPG and Wörwag customers in new ways and continuing to develop an industry-leading automotive coatings portfolio.”

Earlier this month, PPG invested $13 million in its Jiading, China, facility to expand capacity and enhance research and development. The facility produces paint and coatings.

The investment expanded the Powder Coatings Technology Center and added eight new powder coating production lines.

Based in Pittsburgh, PPG operates in more than 70 countries and had net sales totaling $13.8 billion in 2020.
