State House advances several economic recovery bills

The Pennsylvania House of Representatives advanced five bills last week centered on the state’s economic recovery.

“As we begin to look past and recover from the economic effects of COVID-19 and related government decisions, House Republicans this week took critical steps to ensure our job creators can reopen safely in earnest,” House Majority Leader Kerry Benninghoff (R-Centre/Mifflin) said. “House Republicans also took the lead in providing additional tools for community first responder organizations to continue to fundraise and remain afloat during these difficult times. They have already done so much for us, and this week we helped make sure state government is there for them.”

The House advanced legislation providing greater economic mobility for health care professionals and House Bill 605, which amends the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes to provide compulsory arbitration of COVID-19 actions, specifically rights, and immunities.

House Bill 290 allows local volunteer fire and ambulance services with Small Games of Chance licenses to conduct fundraisers during the COVID-19 pandemic. House Bills 425 and 427, amending the Liquor Code to help restaurants and liquor license holders make additional sales.

In addition, the House agreed to continue working on legislation to help small businesses conduct business during states of emergency.

The House also advanced bills on government reform and protecting health and safety.
