The Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry (L&I) recently made available $4.5 million for local programs that enhance foundational digital literacy skills for job seekers, increasing their access to employment opportunities.
Digital literacy includes the ability to upload and submit a résumé via email, develop and maintain a professional profile on networking sites, and search and apply for online jobs.
L&I will provide up to $45,000 for each Digital Literacy and Workforce Development grant. The federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Statewide Activity funds the grants.
Eligible applicants include small businesses meeting certain criteria, nonprofit agencies, and local workforce development boards.
“L&I is focused on providing Pennsylvania workers with the necessary skills to navigate the new economy emerging in the wake of the global COVID-19 pandemic,” acting L&I Secretary Jennifer Berrier said. “The Digital Literacy and Workforce Development Grants will help ensure that our workers develop the basic digital skills they need to succeed when applying for jobs and performing the essential duties that will be required of them in their new career.”
A bidders’ conference will be held Friday.
The application deadline is Feb.17, and the application can be found on L&I’s website. Grants will be awarded between July 1 to Sept. 30.
