Chestlen Development LP, owner of the W and Element dual-branded hotel in downtown Philadelphia, recently provided an update on the construction project.
In 2012, the city requested Chestlen build the hotel because of a hotel room shortage in Center City. Adding more hotel rooms would allow the Pennsylvania Convention Center to attract more business.
The W and Element hotel, located at 1439-1441 Chestnut Street, will add 755 new hotel rooms. It originally was scheduled to be completed in 2018 but will now open its doors later this year.
“We are so proud of this project and look forward to celebrating the opening of these world-class hotels as well as the economic benefits it will bring to the Philadelphia region,” Brook Lenfest, Chestlen owner, said. “This is a premier destination and a unique property that brings two national hotel brands to the city for the first time.”
The company will release details of the opening when it nears.
Chestlen filed a complaint against Tutor Perini Building Corp., the general contractor for the project., on Jan. 11 with the Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia over construction delays and withholding payments to subcontractors.
