Ball Corporation to build packing plant in Pittston

Ball Corp. recently announced it will be building an aluminum beverage packaging plant in Pittston to produce cans of various sizes.

The company will invest approximately $360 million over several years and plans to purchase and retrofit a 1,078,799-square-foot industrial building in Jenkins Township.

“Our new Pittston plant is Ball’s latest investment to serve accelerating demand for our portfolio of infinitely recyclable aluminum containers used in the sparkling water, spiked seltzer, beer, and carbonated beverage categories,” Daniel W. Fisher, COO of global beverage packaging said.

Pittston was chosen because of its proximity to main distribution routes, existing infrastructure, and the cooperation of state and local officials during the site selection process.

The Governor’s Action Team coordinated the project, and the Department of Community and Economic Development submitted a proposal for up to $2 million in Redevelopment Assistance Capital Project and $400,000 in funding for workforce development training.

Funding would be distributed upon the creation of new jobs. Ball also may be eligible for the Manufacturing Tax Credit Program and a Qualified Manufacturing Deduction.

The project is forecasted to generate more than $16 million in new employment payroll and will create 230 full-time jobs. Production is expected to begin in the middle of next year.
