Penske opens electric vehicle charging stations

Penske Truck Leasing, a Reading-based transportation services provider, recently opened its sixth heavy-duty electric vehicle charging station in Southern California.

The station was designed by AES Co. to offset demand on the electricity grid during peak charging times. Siemens provided the eMobility hardware and network software, and Fluence Energy manufactured the battery energy storage system.

“We continue to expand our heavy-duty electric vehicle charging network, while also challenging ourselves to test new solutions like the battery storage component,” Drew Cullen, Penske Transportation Solutions senior vice president of fuels and facility services, said. “We are committed to being on the leading edge of sustainability and technology advancements in transportation, and we look forward to putting our new charging facility to work for our customers and the industry.”

Penske has 21 charging stations in Southern California. The stations are located at Penske Truck Leasing’s facilities.

The charges connect directly to a commercial truck’s battery charging system and can charge a class 8 tractor from zero to 100 percent charged in a few hours.

Penske Truck Leasing operates more than 327,000 vehicles and more than 1,100 locations on five continents. Its product lines include full-service truck leasing, commercial and consumer truck rentals, used truck sales, and transportation and warehousing management.
