The Industrial Sites Reuse Program recently approved funding for three industrial-site cleanup projects.

The program provides loans and grants for environmental assessments and remediation projects at industrial sites that bring blighted land into productive reuse. Eligible applicants cannot be the cause of the contamination or have contributed to it.

The Redevelopment Authority of the City of Reading was awarded $878,612 for environmental remediation of the former Buttonwood Gateway site in Reading. The authority, in partnership with the Delaware Valley Development Co., will construct 28 interconnected townhomes with garages, 12 walk-up apartments, and six three-bedroom townhomes, all with individual entrances and on-site parking.

The Redevelopment Authority of the County of Bucks was awarded $87,600 for an assessment at the former Bensalem Drum Dump Site.

A phase I assessment was completed in 2017, and phase II was completed this year.

The authority will continue assessing the site and will use funds for activities such as aquifer testing, groundwater sampling and analysis, soil investigation, and sub-slab soil gas sampling and analysis.

The Redevelopment Authority of the County of Montgomery was awarded $76,582 for an assessment of the former Pottstown Plating Works property. The authority will remediate the 3.89 acres site for general small business, call center, distribution, warehousing, and light manufacturing use.
