PECO, Pennsylvania’s largest electric and natural gas utility, recently donated $350,000 to United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey’s PHL COVID-19 Fund.

The company will also donate $150,000 to other nonprofit and community organizations providing essential services during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The United Way fund provides resources to organizations across the areas PECO serves. The fund is working to establish benefits enrollment; 211 and resource connectors; housing and shelter; food pantries; and rent, mortgage, utility, and cash assistance.

“Amid the continuing spread of this pandemic, we remain committed to helping support the communities that need us most,” Mike Innocenzo, PECO president and CEO, said. “Our donation aims to provide essential resources to organizations supporting the most vulnerable during this period. As a provider of critical resources and infrastructure, we understand the gravity of our response to this crisis and will ensure that our customers experiencing health or economic challenges due to COVID-19, will maintain access to their electric and gas service.”

The other organizations PECO will support are United Way of Bucks County, United Way of Chester County, the Foundation for Delaware County, MANNA, the Montco Anti-Hunger Network, Project H.O.M.E., the Salvation Army and Philabundance.

The contribution is part of more than $1 million donated by parent company Exelon Corp.
