Sixty-two percent of insurance fraud cases from 2013-2017 in Pennsylvania resulted in convictions or Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition (ARD), according to a new infographic from PA Courts InfoShare.
According to the infographic, there were 2,120 defendants in 2,574 insurance frauds cases during that period.
PA Court InfoShare defined insurance fraud as “when a person knowingly and with the intent to steal, engages in or benefits from any activity that results in the scamming of an organization.” Examples include faked accidents and car damage; staged house fires and robberies; rental insurance scams; and false medical and disability claims.
The Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts (AOPC) produces PA Courts InfoShare each month to visually highlight the work of the courts with data and statistics.
