PennDOT Engineering District 3 wraps up 2018 projects

PennDOT’s Montoursville-based Engineering District 3, which covers nine counties in north central Pennsylvania, began or completed multiple projects in 2018.

In 2018, 52 contracts, totaling nearly $124.6 million, were opened – 39 for road projects and 13 for bridge work – more than 188 miles of paving and 334 miles of surface-preserving seal coating (oil and chip) were completed, and work was performed on 106 state-owned bridges.

In addition to the scheduled projects, PennDOT also began or completed 48 emergency flood contracts worth approximately $23.8 million. Between late July and September, flooding caused about $57 million in damages in the district and damaged more than 400 state roads.

The counties in the district are Bradford, Columbia, Lycoming, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder, Sullivan, Tioga, and Union.

The largest projects included the construction of earthwork and other structures for the new alignment of Route 147 from the river bridge to the existing four-lane section of Route 147. The $61 million project is expected to be completed this year.

Also included was the paving of the northern section of the Central Susquehanna Valley Thruway south of Winfield in Monroe Township, Snyder County to south of Montandon in West Chillisquaque Township, Northumberland County. The $52 million project is forecasted to be completed in 2022.
