House Democratic Policy Committee holds public hearing on environmental education programs

State Rep. Mary Jo Daley (D-Montgomery) recently hosted at the Riverbend Environmental Education Center a House Democratic Policy Committee public hearing on environmental education programs.

“Today’s hearing was a productive discussion on environmental education programs designed to help preserve our environment and prepare our youth to become future leaders in this field,” Daley said. “For the sake of our children and the generations to come, we must learn more about keeping our communities safe and sustainable.”

The committee heard testimony from Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn; Riverbend Environmental Education Center Executive Director Laurie Bachman; Riverbend’s Director of Education Programs and Strategic Initiatives Erin McCool; Judd Pittman, special consultant to the secretary of Education for STEM, Pennsylvania Department of Education; and Norristown Area School District Superintendent Christopher Dormer.

“Implementing environmental educational programs in our communities is an important responsibility,” Policy Committee Chairman Mike Sturla (D-Lancaster), who also participated in the hearing, said. “We need to better prepare our students for brighter futures. I applaud Representative Daley for being a leader on this issue.”

The meeting is part of a series of events being held across the state on the House Democrats’ Plan4PA.
