Educators in the Workforce program expands

The workforce development affiliate of The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce, Skills in Scranton, recently announced it has expanded the Educators in the Workplace program.

The program is offered through Skills in Scranton in a collaborative partnership with the Lackawanna County Workforce Development Board.

The program connects industry and business leaders with the career and technical center, local school districts, and the local intermediate unit. It provides Lackawanna County-based educators with a week-long industry immersion experience.

“With first-hand exposure, educators can enhance classroom activities, projects and work-based learning opportunities that will add relevance and meaning to students’ classroom learning,” Lyndsay J. Grady, Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce director of workforce development, said. “This is an opportunity to gain a fresh perspective that lets educators tie curriculum to real-world applications.”

The program includes four industry sectors vital to the Lackawanna County labor market: advanced manufacturing, business finance and information technology, health care, and logistics and transportation.

Expanding will allow more educators to participate, bring the total to 45 educators, guidance counselors, administrators, and career and technical instructors from 10 Lackawanna County-based public school districts, the Career Technology Center and the local intermediate unit.

The change will expose approximately 1,200 students to 12 in-demand occupations.
